I’m crazy addicted to all of the cool mod kids brands that you find on Instagram. A lot of them are started up by mums/parents themselves and some focus on organic materials or ethical trading which make them even nicer to support. Under ‘mama must-haves’ you’ll find my posts on some of the awesome but also ‘cant-do-without’ bits that I have bought second time around. You can trust me that these are must-haves because second time around you definitely do not waste your money!
First up heres the Modern Burlap large muslin swaddle…

Ok, so the monochrome aesthetics of this brand may have initially drawn me in but this has become one of the most used mama must-haves that I purchased. The large muslin swaddle is essentially a large muslin to do with it whatever you may please (or so I have decided)
I chose our black and white striped one knowing that I may want something as a bit of a cover for breastfeeding and that it actually just looks really cool at the same time. When I first went out and breastfed Rory (most mums will agree the first time in public is a bit daunting), my mum tied a regular old white muzzy around my neck which did the job fine but hell, why not feel more comfortable and look good at the same time!
Huxley initially used the muslin square from day 2 as a swaddle. I didn’t actually continue to use the swaddle method but it kept his arms still and him extremely calm while I was struggling to get to grips with breastfeeding for the second time.

Hux seemed quite happy in the swaddle!
Secondly I used it to cover anything; the base of his pram, the mattress on his crib, oh and the floor so I could take really cute pictures (see above!).
I have to say though, the most use I have got out of the swaddle is for breastfeeding. I simply tied a knot in two adjacent corners and leave it like that all the time so I can just slip it on if I’m somewhere that I feel a bit too exposed (like a park or nice restaurant). I’m generally not too bothered about getting my boobs out to feed but I also found the older Hux has got, the more inclined he is to have a nosey around so this stops him doing that. I also detest ugly breast feeding covers.
